what is a conlang?
note: this section is for people who've never heard of a conlang. if you do know what a conlang is, skip this section
a conlang, or a constructed language, is a made up language.
most languages people know, such as korean, english, mandarin, or basque, are called natural languages (natlangs) because they developed from a bunch of people communicating.
on the other hand, conlangs are made artificially by nerds people (usually one or a few) for a particular purpose. some well-known conlangs are esperanto, toki pono or whatever it is toki pona, klingon, and high valyrian.1
that seems useless
cuz it is!
if you are a nerd, conlangs can be useful in some ways:
- worldbuilding
- learning linguistics
- artistic expression
- experimenting with language
- fun!
what is this group for?
making conlangs
since most members (including me) aren't very familiar with conlanging, we're going to use a modified version of Jessie Peterson's Conlang Year to fit weekly sessions. in each session (probably held on Fridays), we'll discuss our weekly prompts, work on our conlangs, and briefly present changes after the session.

hi. i'm ava aka 한별 aka jan Awa, a 7th grader in gapcheon middle school. i'm into linguistics, conlanging, and writing (never said i was good at any of those). i'm currently reading the language instinct, studying syntax through youtube (for 1 day), making a conlang for my 3 year old self's world, and preparing for a debate contest at english hakwon.
