finals d-2, have my thoughts
the majority of this post is in english
hey esperanto anthem li lon lawa mi, lemme sitelen e ona for a lil bit
en la mondon venis nova sento, tra la mondo iras forta forta voko. per flugiloj de facila vento, nun de loko flugu gxi al loko
(mi ne scias esperanton mdr)
uhh anyways, as of tenpo ni, 기말고사가 2일..ㅋㅋㅋ 남았다. 근데 왜 이 entity does not study but instead writes a stream of consciousness, sometimes sina pali la sina wile sitelen e pali sina li wile lukin e ni: sina pilin seme tawa pali? seme li suli lon pali ni la mi ken pana lon pali ante. you know exit cards? like tenpo wan la mi toki tawa ilo Gemini, the reason i was doing that was cuz i was preparing a debate for english hakwon, the resolution was 'foreign teachers should be banned in asian countries under the university level' (to clarify, the students are under the university level. yes i know the resolution is very stupid, the teachers cant do anything. i hope we did smth more helpful, if theres one thing that's bad abt my english hakwon it's that we can't decide our own debate resolution) and we were con and my friend decided our counterplan would be to remove standardized tests. and i was doing research with gemini when gemini talked about exit cards. apparently they're when you write down a lil note on your takeaways after class, so yeah think of it as that. also yes as you just saw mi kpkn e toki ale tan lawa mi, tan seme la mi o ni ala.
ok should i write the rest of this part where i describe how i studied and what i learned in non-korean to challenge myself a bit? the rules are no direct korean words or calques ig? wait i dont know what 가정 and 기술 are in english, i mean like the subject names, sure i know in a different context they would be 'home' and 'technology' but i don't mean that... or maybe it is that in english but my intuition says no. but i cannot trust my translation intuitions based on how many times it failed. and that includes me trying to guess a translation of 가정 and 기술 as in the subject names. well i guess i will look them up after i write this. wow so many useless sentences, lemme just start writing about my studies.
(i have looked it up while writing this blog, 가정 is home economics and 기술 is technology. wow my intuitions were right, such a rare case)
so the stuff i studied first, you know when you study a subject and it feels like the content has nothing, it's just like... common sense? like 'be kind to people' or 'use the appropriate words depending on who you talk to' stuff like that, except if you overlook them it feels like the teacher is gonna play around with the words on the test and you will fail it, or that you just didn't look at the textbook carefully enough and it doesn't require anything for you to just fail. the thing i studied this morning was that case, i mean there were some concrete stuff to memorize such as clothing design elements (thank you google translate, wow why was i saying that i was fluent in english again? i mean i can rant about politics or write stories better in english but everything else uhh no) but then everything else, uhhhh but i tested myself on a sheet of blank paper and i now know that i do not remember the content they went over when i was half asleep during class, but everything else is fine. and no i did not intend to sleep in class, the teacher was extremely boring and the classroom was just the right temperature to sleep. and someone opened the window and i could finally stay awake.
and technology, well the test is on different types of wood, plastic, and metal, and the textbook is just shit at explaining so i had to look it up on engineering blogs hoping they were layhuman friendly and they had the right information i was looking for, because guess how many study materials were there for the specific middle school curriculum, NONE! because peoople do not care about the subject but you know who wants to get straight A's and already got 3 points off the other little tests therefore i need to do good on this finals? anyways chatgpt helped me and i was able to make a little chart (don't worry i only asked chatgpt things i was confused about and made the chart myself) but the problem is, can i memorize it.
anyways my shoulders hurt cuz i was making those tables on a laptop, so i had lunch and photosynthesized except there was no sun just rain. (for those who dont know, i like to say i photosynthesize when i go outside) and my shoulders still hurt yay, until my mom summoned me for a stretching exercise and my shoulders did not hurt anymore. so as i planned i tested myself on the social studies unit about the americas, after doing that in (almost) one sitting i was very proud of myself and decided to jot down more ideas on my new idea for a story, wait no that happened while i was testing myself, sorry that's not one sitting but i did not doomscroll and i did it in 3~4 sittings which is a very massive improvement, and man the stopwatch really does make me aware of how much my attention span is (<3 minutes without trying to resist, for the first 30 minutes i keep getting the urge to stop studying, but then i kinda get into flow state and the it's way easier to resist the distractions) and make me want to focus for longer times, usually i aim to sit down for at least 25 minutes. anyways after finishing my blank test on the americas i jotted down more on my story ideas and played a cover of 삼각함수송 on piano, specifically the extended vocaloid version titled '빠른 노래를 부르면서 삼각함수를 공부하여 보자'.
and then my mom said that i should study more math, so i printed 90 questions on the entire test range and decided to time myself like i would do on an actual test. for the actual test there would be 26 questions and 45 minutes for each subject, but i wanted to challenge myself so i timed myself 90 minutes for 90 problems. the problems were easy (and similar to whatever would be on the test) so i did it all in 66 minutes, i should have checked it over but i did not, maybe i should go over the problems one more time before getting the answer key. anyways you know what was really cool? i sat down without getting distracted even once, for 66 whole minutes. so to summarize, good: i focused for 66 minutes straight. bad: i did not review my answwers. also i realized i made mistakes when i got the wrong answer and the answer was not a multiple choice option, which i don't think is very good.
after the finals i want to get my hands on harder problems on the same units as the test range, watch a specific youtube video that is in english but is autotranslated by google as '수학의지도', excuse me google i speak english, finally answer those questions i wrote down a week ago when i was reviewing math terms in the test range, write that story that's on my head rn after filling a few of those character templates i got from ellipsus, review what i learned in korean grammar class and read a intro linguistics textbook on the same subject to compare the two resources as well as suneung prep resources on the same subject, wow that seems like a lot but it's just either the latin alphabet is space consuming or i no english so lengthy write only can.
things to do tomorrow (1 day before finals, well this challenge is almost over so i'll write some korean ig)
- stay alive (duh)
- print out my online notes on types of materials and memorize them and do a blank test on all of 기가 (there are no resource packs so no 문풀 i guess)
- check my blank test on the americas, and print out problems for social studies
- check math stuff i did today
it is 11:21pm at the time of writing this sentence, this ended up not as a stream of consciousness but as my first (almost) successful attempt to write a significant chunk about my studies in english, i should change the title. should i write about little things that happened today?
i read mason's new post fish and i had mainly two thoughts: 'wait when they said australian school also starts at autumn it meant it does, but i completely dismissed the fact that the hemispheres have different seasons' and 'the coolest thing about western schools (disclaimer: ava does not know that 'the west' is not a single country with a single culture, well yes she did go to a western-style school and her first impressions of the west were there but that was in china so ava has stayed in east asia the entirety of her life) is that they have cool things in classrooms that represent the class or teacher's interests and values, why would they want to remove that. i get that some people will not be able to focus because they're staring at the fish, but for some people having cool things in the classroom will make it more lively and interesting to be in'
i got a new stopwatch for studying and a 3 colored pen that actually is good, recently my taste in stationery has been picky and that was the first 3 colored pen in 2025 that i liked, and if you keep track of time you know 2025 is coming to an end.
that's it, eat a good fish - wait that is an incredibly bad thing to say two paragraphs after responding to a blog post about taking their teachers' fish home to raise them. exist well!
