i think this is called a stream of consciousness???
toki, y'all! i am back from school (pretend it hasn't been an hour and i didn't doomscroll) and i'm a bit excited! (jan misali reference)
at school, math was, for some reason fun to me! i don't feel like risking the cringe from translating korean math concepts totally wrong, so lemme just write down 다각형의 대각선 개수와 내각의 합을 구하는 공식 and 삼각형 외각의 크기가 이웃하지 않는 두 내각의 크기와 같다는 증명 and 내각과 외각의 정의. i guess i'll look the english words for this up later, just in case i end up discussing this with some english speakers. oh wait there is a use for learning geometry terms in english already! i can watch jan misali's math vids without korean captions! (i know vertices are 모서리... or was it 변? ugh) also i got reminded of that one visual from 'there are 48 regular polyhedra' where they make regular polygons? (is that what 정다각형 is called?) and ends up making a bunch of star-shaped things??? oh man i suck at this.
but it's not my fault, english math words are just...weird. in korean everything is just sino-korean terms that everyone knows. like 삼각형 literally is 'shape of three angles' which is a triangle! english cool! but then 사각형 in english is a quadrilateral? that's such a weird name! (oh wait there's quadrangle i just looked it up) and then from 오각형 and pentagon, both languages are pretty logical as long as you know how the words are formed. however i'd argue korean words for these polygons are a bit more intuitive because 삼, 사, 오 etc are everyday number words while tri, quad etc aren't as common and i don't even recall what's next after quad (tho maybe it's cuz i have less chances to mention numbers in english) also what's 이등변삼각형 in english again? isoceles triangle? ...wait i thought the english word was uselessly wordy but the it's only one syllable longer than the korean one. i guess it's an orthography + exposure (for me) problem. whatevs. i should go learn latin so i can be on an equal level with other english natives with more exposure.
so i think i'm gonna review math today. speaking of math, i successfully completed my 3-hour study session yesterday and it was cool! i realized sometimes i focus better on the bed than on a desk with math problems. i got myself five basic-level problems in 8th grade (2-1 유리수와 순환소수) and 3 more advanced ones (i set my app to only show 상 and 최상 problems) in 7th grade (1-1 ~ 1-2 but only the things i learned at school. i guess i'll do 1-2 and 2-1 together then) and i explained a few more posted on the community tab. i think explaining things is really fun and makes me question all my techniques. like why do i solve this problem this way and how does it relate to my actual knowledge? how can i prove this thing? that session was so cool and it made me look up to going home and doing more math on thursday. (hey, that's today!) also i said that i'll take notes on my math shenanigans from tuesday but i still didn't. i guess i'll write that on my offjab (that's what i call my offline jabnote, and jabnote basically means my random thought note)
apart from reviewing math, i've got to prepare for my debate competition. there's two days left and the latest announcement has left our team with a few complications. and then there's the stuff we couldn't prepare because everyone on the team were procrastinators, me being the biggest one. also i was explaining what our team was up to to my school classmate who i'll be referring to as 26, and since she doesn't understand me talking about debate in english i had to use korean, and it was harder than i thought to explain it without my usual english terminology. sometimes i have humans outside of english hakwon who go to english hakwons that have debate class, but usually most hakwons don't do that, especially the smaller ones that don't have much qualified native teachers or a curriculum independent from korean tests.
my dream from two days ago featured a school called 달성문별고등학교 or 달문고 for short. it was a private school, and i think they had both a regular school and one that focuses on foreign languages. (달문외고) it was like a really prestigious school and it was located in a mountain so there was a lot of stairs. one of them was even taller than the building itself.
and that's it! i guess i'll start doing stuff... or maybe scribble. according to plan i should be reviewing school stuff, and i have suffered mentally for failing all my plans so i shoud review school stuff, but 10 min scribble session pls?
wait i just looked it up and 달성군 is actually a place in daegu, korea.
