i'm stressed, so i guess i'll do whatevs the bearblog carnival is (what's in my inventory?)

so currently, my bro is in the same room as me learning what i'm learning in math rn, it's stressful kinda because it feels like bro's gonna be ahead of me. and i don't think i'm doing math the right way, at all, cuz idk. the famous math teachers talk about mastering a unit before getting on to the next one, well WHAT THE FUCK is mastering??? i feel like i'm way behind everyone because i can't go 'oH i'M dOiNg 대수1' or smth. i think i'm pretty good with understanding this unit, but i barely tried solving problems, well i guess that's also important ugh what am i even talking about. i wish i could go back to second grade when i didn't care about grade levels or 'mastering' concepts, just exploring random math stuff. yeah i should do that

anyways. i was writing my afterschool notes when my bro came inside and started talking about what he's studying by himself, and it annoyed me so much to the point i couldn't focus on my work. so i decided i should do something fun aka the bearblog carnival!(actually he's gone now so i might as well write this after i'm done with my afterschool notes)

(update: i'm partly done with the notes now, but i scrolled too much reddit and i'm not in the mood again)

ok so my inventory! what is an inventory again? idk i guess i'll start wherever i want.

backpack

unlike my very organized brother, i only have one backpack for everything. it used to be a bit confusing when i was juggling 4 hakwons, but now i'm down to 1 and i only have two sets of things that go in my backpack: one for school and the other for (english) hakwon. but english hakwon is basically just textbooks (and my black notebook, and sometimes my tablet) so i'll be writing about what goes in my backpack for school. the stuff i carry when i'm not going to school (for example, i might be going to the library or hanging out with humans) will be marked with \^^/

pencil case \^^/

i used to have two pencil cases: one for most things and one for extra items in case people ask for them (there were normal things like namepens in 6 colors but also used whiteouts and a heart-shaped keyring and three glue sticks and brush pens and genshin impact stickers from my teacher. i was in middle school) but after my hakwon gave out free pencil cases at their debate competition, i have a new one that's way bigger and more epic! there are three of our class that were in the competition, so now we have matching pencil cases!2

jabnote (my nickname for this specific type of notebook) \^^/

btw, you probably know this but by 'notebook' i mean the thing with a lot of papers, not a laptop (that's my konglish brain lol)

this notebook is meant to be something for my random thoughts, but it's actually an all-purpose note, from parts of my toki pona story and conlang ideas to school notes when i run out of post-its (and also what i think in english is called a blank test, i like to call it a baekji test). almost all of my projects started here because writing in a jabnote makes everything lighter and removes my perfectionism, just like how a story from the top of my head i was writing because i didn't want to study for my test is my best one so far! (though still incomplete)

ok so why's it called a jabnote? it's a loan from my korean word for referring to this, 잡노트, which is a shortening of 잡생각노트 (잡생각 means useless thought, 노트 means note). according to romanization rules, it should be japnote, but i wanted it to be jabnote so it seems like it's a portmanteau of jabber and note. i have something that serves the same purpose online, so i like to call the paper notebook an offjab and the online thing an onjab (you probably realize what words are squished together there)

this is my third jabnote. the first and second ones are identical, they were only available in daiso, and it has this unique feature where you can remove and insert pages without ripping the paper. i liked it because when i wrote on the same topic on two different pages that are far apart, i can simply move it so they can be together. but for some reason daiso stopped selling it and now i can't use those notebooks anymore.

tablet & keyboard \^^/

there's something on the screen of this tablet, but i am not ashamed of what i wrote this day and i don't think i'll get doxxed because of this :) i have a cooler pic but my mom may be angry if i show that (but my mom will be angry at this whole blog anyways)

it's an ONYX BOOX Note Air if my knowledge isn't broken3, and i got it in january and e-ink screens are SO COOL like it feels like it changed my life(?) cuz i can finally look at screens for more than a minute even in the dry winter! i use it for basically everything in contexts where devices are allowed.

oh right the keyboard exists. physical keyboards in general are so cool, everyone my age loves to type on screens now but typing on physical keyboards feels so good and it doesn't hurt my wrist as much and when i'm sick of screens i can look at the keyboard while typing and the keyboard isn't a screen!!! sometimes i like to connect the keyboard to my phone, aka the opposite of every other gen alpha.

accordion folder

i put all my school stuff there, and i got it in fifth grade when i started using it for english hakwon purposes but now i don't care about english hakwon papers at all and now i smoosh it together in one folder. also the konglish word for file organizers or folders like these is just 파일 (file)4

yellow folder

it has my school logo on it, and i use it for school papers.

planner

i got this planner in fifth grade as a present from my school english teacher. the first thing i got was a pouch, but one of my classmates offered to trade my pouch with her planner. so we did, and i've been using it since! in fifth grade i used it for tracking my vacation, and now it's more useful during the semester because i have to write down all my tests, and i never look at paper notebooks during vacation anyway.

phone bag

idk what's called outside my generation, but for us it's a phone bag. it's black and has a cute dog drawing.

phone

i don't take it that much to school/hakwon, but i do when i'm going to an unfamiliar place. it's a galaxy a90 5g that i got from my mom because my old phone, galaxy s9+, broke just before midterm. my old phone had a bunch of things going on but with my new phone, i simplified it, though now everything's coming back with my phone addiction lol.

glasses cleaner

yes.

transport card

yes. it used to fit in my phone case (for some reason i had to take out the card from my phone for the card reader to function properly) but now it doesn't, so i keep it separate from my phone. it's way more convenient that way for some reason.

also it has kuromi drawn on it. i have no relation with kuromi other than that.

other

glasses

yes.

stare

like when i stare at people or things. sometimes when i have too much energy i just like to stare at everything. staring is so fun and so are people's reactions when i stare.

thumbs up with my left hand

i'm right handed but i gesture with my left hand. according to my uncle i have left-handed blood in me and my uncle has something similar. also i like to thumbs up everything. so the thumbs up with left hand is my iconic gesture now.

a drawing

it doesn't contain everything, just some stuff that wasn't in the other pictures but not everything.

that's it i guess!!!

also i'm really proud of the phone bag i drew lol.

  1. i might as well post this to the bearblog carnival and let random people see my post, so i guess i'll say this: usually 대수 is algebra, but here i'm referring to the math you learn at korean schools in 11th grade.

  2. we like to say that everything about the debate competition was great except for the debate. go team benefecal, este debate está amañado! (it's an inside joke)

  3. i was gonna say 'if i remember correctly' but i thought that was too common lol

  4. ever thought abt how weird it is to read romanizations of loanwords in korean? like do you know about doichilanteu (도이칠란트) or peurangseu (프랑스)? they're Deutschland and France btw (tho nobody uses 도이칠란트 anymore, 독일 is way more common). there's also seuteuraikeu (스트라이크) or strike.
