librewiki's finnish course
a few days ago i found that librewiki has a basic course on finnish and i am reading it rn cuz i think finnish is cool. finnish has locative cases and [æ] and [ø]1 and [y] and it has cool vibes in general.
anyways i like what they wrote in the introduction and i want strangers to know what it is, and that's why im writing this in english, otherwise i would've written this in korean.

'환영합니다'라는 뜻이지요. 당신이 그 어떤 변태적 욕구에 휩쓸려 여기까지 오게 되었는지는 몰라도, 어쨌든간에 핀란드에 조금이나마 관심이 있어 오게 된 것일 테니, 환영합니다! 일단, 핀란드어는 우랄어족 핀우그리아어파에 속하는 언어입니다. 문법적 성도 없고, 관사도 없습니다. 그러나, SVO 순이고, 부분격이라는 게 있고, 현재 시제 긍정의 문장에서도 동사는 인칭과 수에 따라 각각 다른 어미가 붙습니다. 단어는 어찌어찌 외운다 해도 동사나 명사/형용사의 유형이 여러 가지라 단순 암기는 안 됩니다. 결국, 답은 '많이 말해보기'입니다.
핀란드어로 대화할 상대도 없는데 무슨...어차피 핀란드인들은 구어체를 자주 써서 여기서 배우는 문어체(와 아주 약간의 구어체)로 대화하기 보다는 차라리 영어로 대화하는 게 낫습니다. 핀란드인 친구에게 문자 보낼 때나,변태같은외국어 배우고 있다고 자랑하고 싶을 때 쓰세요.

Tervetuloa! it means 'welcome'. i don't know what extremely weird[^2] desire made you come here, but you must be at least a little bit interested in finland to come here, so welcome! first of all, finnish belongs to the finno-ugric branch of the uralic family. there's no grammatical gender or articles. however, it has SVO word order, has a thing called partitive case, and verbs get different endings based on person and number even in present tense affirmative sentences. even if you somehow memorize the vocabulary, you can't simply memorize everything because of how many noun and verb/adjective forms there are. therefore the answer is to speak a lot.there's nobody to speak finnish with though.but finns mostly use spoken finnish anyways, so it's better to use english rather than the written (and a bit of spoken) finnish you would learn here. use this when you text your finnish friend, or when you want to show off you are learning an extremely weirdlanguage.
