what i'm up to rn
i'm running for class president this year, and a few days ago i had this random idea to make a webpage to write about the specifics of my campaign promises. there are 2 reasons for this:
- (the excuse) nobody will listen if i say everything i want to say in my speech, it's already almost 3 minutes and my friend advised me to keep it 1~2 minutes. but there might be some people who want to read the reasoning or actual plans behind what i'll say.
- (the real reason) i want to make a new webpage from scratch and learn new things
reason 2 is why i spent the first five hours making this webpage on learning how to do flexbox. also i drew this picture of myself!
the day right after i finished the webpage, uhh sorta, i thought of making a school club to prepare for the linguistics olympiad! i always wanted to make a linguistics club at school because it would finally give me to do something related to linguistics. but nobody likes linguistics and linguistics isn't directly useful to school studies, plus i have no idea what i'll do in the linguistics club, and nobody knows anything about linguistics (me neither, but at least i know what a phoneme is lol) so they won't know either and we would all go 흐지부지 (cant think of the word with the same connotation rn). so i decided to throw away that idea for a book discussion club, until today. like i've already seen a blog post about a human kidnapping some elementary schoolers to sell the linguistics olympiad, i can do the same thing, just with middle schoolers!
anyways a linguistics olympiad club is related to linguistics, but also:
- there's a clear goal (try the linguistics olympiad) and method as well as resources (in korea, there's the KLO website and eonol.com, as well as a naver cafe. i also found an english textbook!), so less planning and less chances of 흐지부지
- it's less about linguistics (linguistics knowledge isn't required, though it does help and you can totally make it about linguistics if you want) and more about puzzles, so i could target students who like puzzles
anyways i just randomly thought, what if i advertised that also through a webpage and put the qrcode/link in schools, so that i don't have to update the details on every poster when i had to?
the webpages are on my personal website that i was using from earlier, https://janawalilon.nekoweb.org. maybe i would make more webpages for school purposes, and maybe it would look better if i had a separate website on a separate domain for school stuff, but right now there's not a lot of school stuff.
i also want to do the book discussion club, like it'd be great to do the english newspaper club, book discussion club, and linguistics olympiad club together, but unfortunately my school only allows us to join two clubs maximum. the average hafs student joins 5 clubs (source: hafs students and graduates), why can't i??? i wanna go to hafs.
